An Effective Guide to Team Building Activities
A team that works together is more productive, more effective and more successful, not to mention jovial and interesting to work with! However, team building events such as outdoor team building activities are not easy to establish and develop, especially when the team building activities tend to bring issues among teammates.
So how do you plan a team building event that is effective at teaching the staff to work together and amicably and enjoyable at the same time? Here are effective tips to help you make the next team building activity a successful event.
Plan the activity during working hours
No matter how much they love and admire their careers, nobody loves to work extra time on evenings and weekends, not even attending an event such as outdoor team building activities. Therefore, if you plan to do the activity during a work day- even if it is for an hour on a Wednesday is way better than sitting in the office on the weekend. If possible, schedule the activity over breakfast or lunch hour, but make sure that you provide food. In addition, look for vacation schedules. You will not want to host an event on a day when more than half of the staff is on vacation.
Consider volunteer work
It could be great if you convince your teammates to sign up for volunteer projects for the local charity or something that benefits the community at large. Generally, people feel great if they spend time helping other people, and volunteer work is certainly one of the best ways to get your teammates involved and active.
Encourage collaboration, but not competition
If there is an element of competition, then certain employees will want to become better than others and become focused on winning. This is not a good thing because these employees may not learn anything productive from the experience. Pick an activity that encourages everyone to work together towards solving a common problem.
Make the activity available to everyone
Some workers would love to run a relay race or play softball as a type of team building activity, but you have to understand that not everyone may like to race or play softball and those that are not able participate will feel left out- which is not exactly what you want. It is therefore vital to consider health sensitiveness and physical conditions and ensure that you pick an activity that everyone can participate. On the other hand, physical activity comes with a bunch of social and health benefits. Therefore, if the workers are up for it, plan a yoga class, a group hike, a rock climbing facility or a trip.
Getting out of the office can be great because it is easy for everyone to interact more freely. Instead of doing an activity within the four walls of your office, why don’t you try outdoor team building activities?
If you are unable to plan, schedule and hold a team building event, you can hire a professional company such as HIDDENDOOR, to do the work on your behalf.
